Breaking the deadlock to launch Conference on the Future of Europe

Council revises position for Conference on Future of Europe The Council has adopted a revised position on the Conference on the Future of Europe. Proposals to launch the Conference on 9 May 2021. It also suggests that the Conference should be chaired by the Presidents of the three main EU institutions, namely the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, and the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The outcomes of the conference :

1. should be reflection of the report to the European Council in 2022. 20. In light of the conclusions of the European Council, the EU institutions would commit to examine swiftly how to follow up effectively to this report, each within their own sphere of competence and in accordance with the Treaties. 21. The Conference does not fall within the scope of Article 48 TEU.
